Portal - Portals + Magnets = Magnetic: Cage Closed

Zzzap!

Stop me if this sounds familiar. Imprisoned within an enclosed facility by a disembodied female voice, you’re given control of a prototype weapon and led through a series of physics based puzzle rooms which... No, it's not Portal.

This is Magnetic: Cage Closed [official site].  Which seems very similar in a lot of ways, except for one; there are no portals. Instead, that untested gun in your hand allows you to control magnetic fields. Now you’re thinking with Magnets. Hmm, come to think of it, that sounds familiar too...

So it’s Portal with magnets, and I don’t think developer Guru Games would have any qualms with me describing it as such. However, Magnetic has tried to differentiate itself in many ways. The aesthetic is described as being a “sombre steel hell”, far away from Portal’s gleaming white walls and polished plastic. Curiously, there’s also a branching storyline.

From the trailer, which you can find below, there looks to be a similar amount of being thrown through the air, seemingly without injury. Also cubes, lots of cubes. Mercifully, there's no sign of cake. Yet.

Magnetic: Cage Closed is out on Steam as of today for £11.99.
