Resident Evil 7's free story DLC delayed

Sure, make this freebie good

The free Resident Evil 7 [official site] story DLC 'Not A Hero' is delayed, Capcom have announced. The end of RE7 teased that Not A Hero would arrive in spring 2017, but now it won't. Capcom say it wasn't shaping up as good as the rest of the (great) game but they want it to be, so they'll work on it a while longer. No firm word yet on when it will arrive. For the benefit of folks who've not yet played RE7, I'll not say much about Not A Hero before the cut. Speaking of...

And here we are! If you've seen the end of RE7, you'll know that Chris Redfield arrives to clean up the mess with some new Umbrella [ella ella, eh eh -ed.] chums. He'll be back in Not A Hero, doing... something. Dunno. I assume it involves guns and goop.

"But Alice," you wonder, "you said you wouldn't give away anything about RE7 yet you opened this post with that picture |^|... that... ^|... that... how do you do those arrows?"

Well, old chum, that ↑ picture shows Topher in his RE7 form, looking so different to previous Tophers that some lorelicking fans theorised that ACTUALLY he wasn't Topher Reddy at all but someone pretending to be him. Capcom have incidentally shot that idea down, having said that he looks this way because they didn't want him to be a terrifying lump of cartoon muscle in RE7 and began with photo scans of a new model.

As for Not A Hero's delay, director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masachika Kawata explained the sitch in an apologetic video.

Kawata: "We were working very hard to get the DLC ready in time for the spring release-"
Nakanishi: "and we got close to completing the game content. However, in light of the incredible reception to the release of Resident Evil 7, we concluded that this DLC was not good enough to meet those high expectations."
Kawata: "Our aim is for this content to match the high quality of the main game, so we need more development time in order to complete that goal."

Sure, make that freebie good. Please do. Be my guest!

Executive producer Jun Takeuchi added in the video that the Evil Residents are working on another bit of DLC beyond this too.
