Stalker 2: A Light In The Wasteland

The sudden apparent closure of GSC GameWorld and death of Stalker 2 is, for me, the saddest gaming news of this year, and a whole lot of other years to boot. Jim eloquently summed up why over the weekend. The waters of explanation remain deeply muddied however, so all we can do is hope that some glimmer of life emerges from the ruins. We got a small hint of that earlier, with the GSC Twitter account suddenly offering "We will do our best to continue. However, at this moment, nothing is certain."

That's all they've said so far, I'm afraid. Whether that's an official line or just a hopeful employee who's found the GSC Twitter password, we don't know. Whether it means the company will pull itself up by its bootstraps or attempt to sell off its properties and resources either for funding or so someone else can make the game, we don't know. We don't know anything. But any hope is hope worth having right now.

Best of luck, brave developers: you'll find a way.
