Texas Stranger: The Real Texas

There may well be only one epic action RPG you need in the nebulous ‘Coming Soon’ bracket and it speaks for itself.

The Real Texas is an action adventure game that plays like a mashup of Zelda: Link to the Past and Ultima VI. Sam, an ordinary Texas rancher, is on holiday in England when he falls into a blue portal and lands in The Strange Texas.”

A trailer follows. It includes clothes shopping, chickens and a floating eye-cube called Yolanda.

I have to admit, after being sold on the premise, the opening minute or so of the video wasn’t doing much for me. Then I realised it was essentially the plot synopsis being played out. It’s when Sam arrives in The Strange Texas that the fun begins. Imaginative, humorous and odd, this has my full attention now. Despite appearing a bit wobbly and imprecise, combat seems to be mechanically sound and it is, quite simply, a world that I’m keen to explore.

For more journeys into the weird worlds of Kitty Lambda, take a look through the games at the site. There’s a wonderful pile of toys with descriptions such as “A Driving Introspection Game” and “A Maddening Clickfest Game”. I’d particularly recommend Night Cruising, which is simple but effective, and I’ve been enjoying Major Tom Rocket Driver because the further I get the more drunk my Rocket Driver seems to be. I think it’s because of the atmosphere of the planets I’m trying to launch from, but in my mind, it’s definitely due to too much Space Gin.

The Real Texas is set to be Kitty Lambda's biggest and most ambitious project yet. It's good to see that hasn't made it any more normal.
