Hayla, oh hayla shayla: Halo Wars 2 demo released

Wot do YOU think?

You're read Wot Fraser Brown thinks of Halo Wars 2 [official site], right? That Creative Assembly's real-time strategy game set in the world of John Torode-177, the Master Chef, is a bit weird as an RTS designed for a console but quite fun all the same? Something that might be worth a crack to see if you take a fancy to it. Don't go spending £50 to find out (fifty quid!) as it now has a demo out on the Windows Store. For Windows 10 only, of course.

The demo contains the opening level from the campaign and also a bit of Blitz Firefight, the mode which shuffles in a bit of deck-building. Blitz hat was one of the bits Fraser liked most, though the decks in this demo are pre-built. Hey, here's a chunk of Fraser's review:

"Halo Wars 2 is simultaneously conservative and inventive. It’s definitely trying to evoke traditional RTS games – which is not entirely a bad thing given the recent dearth of them – especially when it comes to the campaign, but elements like base construction and Blitz mode make it stand out enough that it doesn’t feel like you’re just going through the motions for the hundredth time. A clumsy UI and weird, sometimes fixed, keybindings and controls reveal its console heritage, but there are a surprising number of benefits to that side of the design. Some of the places where the formula has been redesigned in order to appeal to the Xbox One crowd, and to fit a controller, are the points where Halo Wars 2 finds an identity of its own."

But wot do yooou think?
