Star Trek Online Unveils Tributes To Nimoy And Colleagues

Live long and remember

Star Trek Online [official site] has added tributes to Leonard Nimoy as well as other actors from the Star Trek series at part of a Thursday update to the game.

Writing on the official blog, Arc Games' executive producer, Stephen Ricossa, explained the additions:

"I’m certain everyone who knew of Nimoy's work will remember him in their own special way, and I want to make sure Star Trek Online also has an in-game way for people to remember him as well. As of this morning, there are several locations throughout the game that will allow people to take a moment to remember Spock, Leonard Nimoy, and other departed friends from Star Trek history."

Responding to the community's choice of gathering spot for their impromptu tribute to Nimoy, the central structure of the fountain found on Vulcan will be replaced with a statue of Spock bearing the inscription "Live Long and Prosper". Another statue will be placed on New Romulus with the inscription "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" as an acknowledgement of the character's work towards Romulan and Vulcan reunification. There will also be a temporary tribute of black flags hung in the hubs of Earth Spacedock, Qo'nos and New Romulus.

Something I saw a few times in the thread on the Elite: Dangerous forum in the discussion of that game's own memorial was the suggestion that other late actors and people connected with the series should be given a similar treatment, or at least acknowledged in some way.

Tis also interactable to include information and personal quotes

It looks like the creators of Star Trek Online felt similarly as the final addition is a memorial plaque in the same locations as the Spock statue which features the names and dates of Majel Barrett (Nurse Christine Chapel, Lwaxana Troi), James Doohan (Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott), DeForest Kelley (Dr Leonard 'Bones' McCoy) and creator Gene Roddenberry alongside Nimoy's.
