The End Is Nigh shows off deadly platforming

Isn't it just

Super Meat Boy co-creator Edmund McMillen and Closure dev Tyler Glaiel have shown off more of After announcing The End Is Nigh [official site] last week, the deadly new platformer they announced last week. As you might expect, the new gameplay video is full of spikes, pits, jumping up and sliding down walls, quick deaths, quick restarts, and odd-lookin' sad creatures. Unlike most games announced around E3, this one is coming soon -- in just under one month -- so have a look, tired eyes.

That's from early in the game, obvs.

I do quite like that it's split into interconnected individual screens rather than a scrolling world. The extra awareness needed to piece together the world and figure out how to get to certain places can make for pleasing and surprising little challenges.

Here, check out these two songs from the soundtrack too.

The End Is Nigh will cost £10.99/14,99€/$14.99 when it hits Steam on July 12th. It is an entirely separate game to Øuroboros, another grim platformer that McMillen and Glaiel had been working on. They might finish that one day but not any time soon.
