Beyond Good & Evil 2 Continues As Ancel Goes A Bit Indie
Micehl Ancel's mysterious new indie outfit
It's nice to have a reminder that Ubisoft really do intend to release Beyond Good & Evil 2, isn't it? After six years, I don't really think of it as an actual game I might play one day, more a pleasant idea I'm glad Ubisoft still share. The latest of many casual statements that yeah, they're thinkin' about it too comes to assuage concerns after news that BG&E head honcho Michel Ancel (of Rayman fame too) is going indie. Sort of.
Ancel has joined a new small indie outfit, named Wild Sheep, but will continue to work at Ubi too.
I'd tell you more about Wild Sheep, but they're something of a mystery. They exist, they're willing to state, they are making a game, they say, and Ancel is "involved" in an unspecified way. He's at the centre of their team photo, so either he's doing something important, they think it's better for marketing, or they simply like him a lot, all think he's a really swell guy.
Asked by Polygon what this meant for Beyond Good & Evil 2, Ubi said:
"It's still far too early to give many details about this new title, but what we can say is that while Michel and the team at Ubisoft Montpellier are working with the core tenets of BG&E, they're developing something that aspires to push past the boundaries of a proverbial sequel and leverages next-gen technologies to deliver a truly surprising, innovative and exceptional game. The entire team is excited about the direction this extremely ambitious project is taking, and we'll have more to share later, as it progresses."
The last we saw of BGE&2 was a little footage of a level two years ago. We think. It was never officially declared BG&E2, but looked an awful lot like an older leaked video of what appeared to be a parkour-y BG&E2 prototype. So very much could have changed since then. But Ubisoft are still thinkin' about the game, and that's nice.
