Galakrond Dragon Priest deck list guide - Descent of Dragons - Hearthstone (December 2019)

Your games hopefully won't be Dragon on.

The Priest class’ version of Galakrond is Galakrond, the Unspeakable. He’s a 7 mana Hero card who destroys enemy minions with his Battlecry, and has a Hero Power - Galakrond's Wit - that adds a random Priest minion to your hand.

When he’s Invoked, the card’s Battlecry gets even better. The 2nd stage of Galakrond destroys 2 enemy minions, and the Azeroth’s End version (after Invoking him 4 times) destroys 4. It’s a pretty reliable board clear and a chance to swing the game in your favour.

You’ll be playing a control-like gameplan, aiming to outvalue your opponents and eventually overwhelm them. Your Dragon synergies will keep you in control of the board, whilst Galakrond’s Wit should offer a constant source of value throughout the game.

General strategy

This is a pretty standard Dragon Priest style of play. With all this Descent of Dragons madness and the huge power level of the cards released, we’ll be seeing a whole load of .

Early Game: You’ve got a bunch of 1 and 2 cost cards to play early on in the game. Northshire Cleric delivers brilliant card draw, especially when buffed with Power Word: Shield. The new Descent of Dragons minion Disciple of Galakrond is a great early play too, establishing a presence on the board whilst also upgrading Galakrond, the Unspeakable halfway to his first transformation. Invoking Galakrond also gives you a random Priest minion in hand, and we absolutely love a bit of value.

Firetree Witchdoctor can trade well too, and you’ll usually have a Dragon in hand thanks to this deck’s abundance of them. Discover a spell that’ll help you out in your current situation. Maybe Forbidden Words to get rid of an early threat, or another Power Word: Shield to keep cycling through your deck.

Mid Game: Chronobreaker is a 5 mana 4/5 who’ll absolutely ruin your enemy’s day when played. Your deck is filled to the brim with Dragons, so the Deathrattle will almost always go off, and when it does you get a Duskbreaker-like effect that only targets enemies. Those of us who remember the Kobolds and Catacombs days know the ludicrous power level of this effect, and it’s the perfect play to consolidate mid-game control.

Invoking Galakrond is a solid part of this deck’s gameplan too, as his Battlecry effect can be a huge swing later on and the value generated in the mid game can help enormously. Keep contesting the board with the likes of Twilight Drake and Big Ol' Whelp, and you’ll force your opponent to use important board clearing resources to get rid of them.

If at any point in the game you can get Frizz Kindleroost played, do it. The huge power spike this deck gains when every single Dragon is reduced in cost by 2 mana is ridiculous, and you’ll be able to draw into those cards easily with the likes of Big Ol' Whelp and Northshire Cleric.

Late Game: Kronx Dragonhood can draw your Galakrond, the Unspeakable if you haven’t already. When Invoked 4 times, this card can destroy 4 random enemy minions immediately. If you’ve already played him, Kronx becomes even stronger, unleashing devastation on your opponent either through generating a board presence, clearing the board or dealing direct face damage.

Another solid late play is Murozond the Infinite, who can replay every card your opponent played last turn. Targets are chosen randomly, but if they just plonked a huge minion on the board or something, you can just copy exactly what they did. It’s a great answer to any final gambit your enemy is trying to pull out.

Galakrond Dragon Priest Mulligan Guide

Below is our guide on what to keep in your opening hand when playing Galakrond Dragon Priest.

1. Disciple of Galakrond is super easy to play at 1 mana, generates you a random Priest minion, and gets you one step closer to unleashing the full power of Galakrond, the Unspeakable.

2. Northshire Cleric remains up there with the game’s best 1-drops. It trades well and can then be healed for card draw, letting you dig through your deck for mid and late game cards.

3. Frizz Kindleroost costs 4 mana, but the effect this minion has on a game is so ridiculous that you might as well keep them in hand. Reducing the cost of all Dragons in your deck by 2 is super powerful early on, so it’s worth going for this one.

Galakrond Dragon Priest tips, combos and synergies

Below are some tips for how to best play Galakrond Dragon Priest in the upcoming Descent of Dragons meta:

- Remember that Chronobreaker requires you to have a Dragon in hand when it dies for its Deathrattle to go off, so if you’re planning on trading this minion off, do it before playing your last Dragon.

- Each time you Invoke Galakrond, you receive a random Priest minion, so try to leave hand space for this.

- Time Rip works both for single-target removal and value generation, killing an enemy minion and ‘drawing’ you a card.

- Galakrond, the Unspeakable is a great way to clear off enemy minions, but if you want to save this guaranteed effect for later, you always have other board clears like Mass Hysteria or Chronobreaker.

- Big Ol' Whelp is a great trigger for your Dragon synergies, but cycles your deck too with your Battlecry, especially valuable when played after Frizz Kindleroost.

- Breath of the Infinite is a solid way to clear off enemy minions, and can even avoid harming what board presence you already had if you’re holding a Dragon.

- Galakrond's Wit, the Hero Power for Galakrond once you’ve transformed, costs 2 mana to cast, but remember that you still gain the effect from Invoke cards even if he’s already in play.

- Kronx Dragonhoof has four potential Devastations. Decimation deals 5 to the enemy Hero and heals yours by 5. Reanimation summons an 8/8 Dragon with Taunt. Domination gives all your other minions +2/+2. Annihilation deals 5 to all enemy minions. Depending on your game’s state, you’ll want to choose carefully - sometimes you just want to end it all, whereas on other occasions you need to clear the board of enemy threats.
