League Of Legends World Championships Quarter Finals Will Be Shown On BBC

Ahead of next week's League Of Legends [official site] World Championships quarter finals held at the Wembley Arena, BBC Three has announced plans to livestream the event online. Huh!

Radio 1 DJ, and apparent "avid" gamer, Dev Griffin will host the coverage, whilst presenter and one-time Games Master columnist Julie Hardy will join commentators and esports aficionados Leigh ‘Deman’ Smith and James ‘Stress’ O’Leary for player and fan interviews.

The event will see BBC Three and BBC Sport come together to offer the same sort of broadcasting live sport and music events have had in the past, such as Glastonbury or T in the Park. Those who tune in can expect live and pre-recorded videos, text, audio and social commentary, all gathered neatly in one place. Recently, American media organisation Turner Broadcasting announced plans to host live Counter-Strike: Global Offensive events in 2016, thus it's nice to see esports being taken more seriously in wider-reaching, non-game-specific forums.

Damian Kavanagh, the controller of BBC Three had this to say of the Beeb's involvement: "We jumped at the chance to collaborate with BBC Sport and bring this massive UK event to a wider audience. BBC Three will always experiment with new ways to deliver content that young people want, in ways they want. I think this is an exciting way to cover something millions of young Brits love, in a BBC Three way.”

The League Of Legends World Championships 2015 is taking place right now, with the quarter finals at Wembley kicking off Thursday October 15.
