This Midrange Demon Hunter deck is a really nice, simple deck to play, and you can get strong results if you play it well.
With a great balance of board control and burst damage, you’ll hopefully be able to take your enemies out with relentless efficiency and even have a few tricks up your sleeve if stuff goes wrong.

You’ll want to stay on curve as much as you can. This makes you really powerful against control decks like Control Warlock, but you’ll sometimes come up short against aggro. Here’s how to play the deck as best you can though.
Early Game: Battlefiend remains one of the best one-drops in the game, and presents a constant threat when played on turn one. Followed by Felfire Deadeye, you can get an attack off immediately and start buffing it. Aside from that, just try to get your early minions played and contesting. Use your Hero Power to trade if you can get enemy minions killed by it, and keep getting yours on board. Don’t be afraid to play a weapon to start beefing up your attack either - you have two copies of both Aldrachi Warblades and Warglaives of Azzinoth so it’s not like you’re going to run out.
You will want to keep things going face when possible too - don’t get too stuck on trading when you could be dealing direct damage. Often it’s better in the early game to force your enemy into a rough spot instead of giving them the chance to stabilise.
Mid Game: It’s basically the same plan here as the early game, if we’re honest. Kazakus, Golem Shaper is your only four-drop, and we’ve mostly found ourselves using the five mana golem for curve reasons, but if you have a little extra mana at the end of a turn, one mana golems can be really helpful. Just make sure you pick the right effects based on your board state - damage if you need to remove enemy threats, buffing if you already have a board, or card draw if you need to refill your hand.
Late Game: The late game is a strange place to be with this deck. Ideally the match will end as soon as possible in your favour at this point. Warglaives of Azzinoth are a great combo with Relentless Pursuit as it doesn’t kill your Hero when you attack multiple times, and when you buff your attack up, Bladed Lady is discounted so be sure to factor that into account towards the end when pushing through Taunts or the like.
The most beautiful finisher is Illidari Inquisitor. If you already have a weapon equipped or can afford a Hero Power and attack face, your 8/8 will immediately attack face too, which is often enough to finish the game once and for all.
Midrange Demon Hunter Mulligan Guide
Here’s the cards you should look to keep:
1. Battlefiend is just a classic keep. Play it on turn one, buff it from there. Easy.
2. Wandmaker can give you extra copies of Fury and Illidari Studies, two cards already good enough to make it into your deck.
3. Felfire Deadeye, along with being a decently-statted minion, makes your Hero Power cost zero mana.
Midrange Demon Hunter tips, combos and synergies
Here’s some stuff to look out for when playing Midrange Demon Hunter:
- Try to save Fury until it reaches rank two or three (when you reach five or ten mana). This’ll give your Hero +4 Attack for just one mana.
- Bladed Lady is easier to play if you already have a weapon equipped. With Warglaives of Azzinoth in hand, all you need is a Fury or Chaos Strike and a Hero Power to make her cost just one mana.
- If you attack multiple enemies a turn, such as a minion then face with Warglaives of Azzinoth, Illidari Inquisitor will also hit them all (as long as it lives through the combat).
- You have a great deal of card draw in this deck, making it easier to draw out the 3/10 generated in your deck by Mankrik.
- Keep Skull of Gul’dan in your hand if it’s on the far left side at the start of the game. It’ll stay there, giving you a great potential play when you can afford it.
- Keep track of the amount of burst damage you have in your hand. With Fury, Chaos Strike, Relentless Pursuit, and all your weapons, you can finish enemies with a significant amount of health left over. This is even possible through Taunt minions thanks to the great discount potential of Bladed Lady and Eye Beam.
- Try to cast Illidari Studies on the same turn you plan on casting the Outcast card it generates. This is because the Outcast effect will trigger that turn since it’ll go into the right side of your hand.
