Rain World Video Shows Maps, More Physics Wonder
England, I call it
Rain World [official site] has been on my radar since Cara spotted the first GIFs of it back in March 2013, and it just looks better and better. There's a six-minute long video below, showing plenty of the scampering slugcat and the lizards who hunt him.
The video comes as part of a Kickstarter update which also includes a status update on recent progress, including the navigation maps and food consumption UI featured above. The update also talks about a new creature type, Scavengers, who walk on their knuckles and can use tools just like the player. They should be "the masterpiece of Rain World AI." Adorable:
Also mentioned is that they're now working on the final stretch before announcing a Rain World launch date, which is exciting after following development for so long.
I've played a number of Rain World builds over the past couple of years and have liked everything about it bar the controls, which make it fiddly to enter the tunnels that connect parts of its world. You end up entering them backwards a lot of the time if your positioning is just slightly off, and entering them backwards means exiting in order to turn around or moving so slowly that you're likely to be eaten by whatever drove you towards the tunnel in the first place. If they've fixed that, it could be something special.
