Teamfight Tactics: Items guide and cheat sheet (patch 9.19)
Here's every item recipe in Teamfight Tactics.
Items drop from AI “Creep” waves at specific intervals throughout a game of Teamfight Tactics, and they’ve all got unique combinations, effects and stat bonuses. Some items can be so powerful, they’ll totally transform middling champions into monstrous carries. You simply can’t do without items, so it’s important you take the time to learn how they work and which are the strongest in the game.
For a newcomer, the item system can be a little tricky to learn, though. It’s not immediately obvious when they’ll drop and how to combine them. What’s more, there are a multitude of recipes which can be a bit overwhelming too.
Even for the most decorated Teamfight Tactics players, memorising all the item effects and recipes can feel like an impossible task. To help you learn the ropes, we've put together a guide to all the items, their effects and recipes in an easy to read format.
As Teamfight Tactics is currently in open beta, all of these items and their effects can change at short notice. We'll do our utmost to update this page as the game evolves, so keep this guide bookmarked for all the latest.
As the game is ever-evolving, all of these items and their effects can change at short notice. We’ll do our utmost to update this page as Riot makes tweaks, so keep it bookmarked for all the latest.
A quick note before we begin...
Each header below represents a base item. Each of these base items can be combined with a number of different “ingredients” to form a powerful top tier item.
- Item Combo - The item you’ll need to combine with the Base Item.
- Final Item - The item you’ll receive once you combined both Base and Combo items.
- Effects - The Final Item’s effect/s.

Sparring Gloves - Item Cheat Sheet
Introduced in patch 9.19 the Sparring Gloves provide some of our favourite items to toy around with. While they might not be considered the best in the current meta, we’ve still got a soft spot for their unique mechanics.
One particularly strong offering is the Thief’s Glove thanks to its ridiculous early game strength. Pop this on a tier two unit early on and they’ll effectively have three items right away. Sure, they’ll be random, but often it can give you a huge advantage when everyone else is still working towards building one.
Item Combo | Final Item | Effects |
---|---|---|
B.F. Sword | Infinity Edge | The wearer gains +150% Critical Strike Damage. |
Recurve Bow | Repeating Crossbow | When the wearer dies, Repeating Crossbow is re-equipped to a new ally. Each time Repeating Crossbow is re-equipped, it grants additional +20% Attack Speed and +20% Critical Strike Chance for the remainder of combat. This effect can stack any number of times |
Needlessly Large Rod | Jeweled Gauntlet | The wearer’s spells can critically strike |
Tear of the Goddess | Hand of Justice | At the beginning of each planning phase, the wearer gains one of the following: Basic Attacks and spells deal +40% Damage or Basic Attacks heal 40 Health on-hit. |
Chain Vest | Iceborne Gauntlet | When the wearer dodges, they create a zone of ice. Enemies inside the zone have their Attack Speed reduced by 35% |
Negatron Cloak | Quicksilver | The wearer gains a shield that prevents the next crowd control effect from applying. This shield refreshes after 5 seconds. |
Giant’s Belt | Trap Claw | At the beginning of combat, the wearer gains a shield that blocks the first enemy spell that hits them. The enemy that breaks the shield is stunned for 5 seconds |
Spatula | Mittens | Wearer is also a Yordle |
B.F. Sword - Item Cheat Sheet
From this list, the Spear of Shojin is one of the best items currently in the game. It’s incredibly strong on champions who rely heavily on auto-attacks to build their mana bar. Stick this item on the likes of Pyke, Aurelion Sol or Brand and they’ll need less wind up time before unleashing their abilities.
The Bloodthirster is also worth picking up on specific units such as Draven or Lucian who can benefit enormously from the lifesteal. Stack items on top and they’ll be practically unkillable.
Finally, Zeke’s Herald is worth considering on certain champions too. If you’re building an Attack Speed oriented comp, equipping this on a tank near your damage dealing champions can pay dividends.
Item Combo | Final Item | Effects |
---|---|---|
B.F. Sword | Deathblade | Whenever the wearer kills or participates in killing an enemy, gain +15 Attack Damage for the remainder of combat. This effect can stack any number of times |
Recurve Bow | Giant Slayer | The wearer's basic attacks deal an additional 5% of the target's Maximum Health as true damage |
Needlessly Large Rod | Hextech Gunblade | Heal 33% of all damage dealt |
Tear of the Goddess | Spear of Shojin | After casting an ability, recover 15% of remaining maximum Mana per attack |
Chain Vest | Guardian Angel | Revive champion with 800HP after 2 seconds |
Negatron Cloak | The Bloodthirster | 35% Lifesteal |
Giant’s Belt | Zeke’s Herald | Adjacent allies gain +15% Attack Speed |
Sparring Gloves | Infinity Edge | Critical Strike Damage is increased by 150% |
Spatula | Youmuu’s Ghostblade | Wearer is also an Assassin |
Recurve Bow - Item Cheat Sheet
Rapid Firecannon is fantastic for carries who want to stay on the backline without being harmed, and it also ensures that attacks won’t miss - a perfect counter against Phantom Dancer. In our opinion, it’s an absolute must have if you’re building a composition around a champion like Draven, Tristana, Vayne, Nidalee and so on.
Phantom Dancer is another superb item which can be great against Assassin compositions and can be slapped on practically any champion. We’d highly recommend placing it on a carry you wish to protect as they’ll dodge all critical strikes and survive for much longer.
Guinsoo’s isn’t top tier, but it can be strong on the right unit. Equip it on a carry who is highly reliant on auto-attacks like Vayne and it can really help them to spew out damage as fights progress. Pair it with another item for maximum efficiency.
Item Combo | Final Item | Effects |
---|---|---|
B.F. Sword | Sword of the Divine | 7% chance each second to gain 100% crit |
Recurve Bow | Rapid Firecannon | Wearer’s attacks cannot be dodged. Attack Range is doubled |
Needlessly Large Rod | Guinsoo’s Rageblade | Attacks grant 5% Attack Speed. Stacks infinitely |
Tear of the Goddess | Statikk Shiv | Every 3rd attack deals 90 splash magical damage to 3 additional targets |
Chain Vest | Phantom Dancer | Wearer dodges all Critical Strikes |
Negatron Cloak | Cursed Blade | Attacks have a low chance to Shrink (Reduce enemy’s star level by 1) |
Giant’s Belt | Titanic Hydra | Attacks deal 10% of the wearer’s max Health per second |
Sparring Gloves | Repeating Crossbow | When the wearer dies, Repeating Crossbow is re-equipped to a new ally. Each time Repeating Crossbow is re-equipped, it grants additional +20% Attack Speed and +20% Critical Strike Chance for the remainder of combat. This effect can stack any number of times |
Spatula | Blade of the Ruined King | Wearer is also a Blademaster |
Chain Vest - Item Cheat Sheet
Phantom Dancer is an incredible pickup for practically any champion in the game as it’ll increase their survivability to no end and up their Attack Speed too. We’ve found it’s great on carries like Draven, Aurelion Sol, Brand and Nidalee.
Red Buff is by no means the strongest choice, but it can be surprisingly potent on champions who deals splash damage. Place it on Graves and he’ll deal burn damage to multiple enemies with each shot, for example.
Frozen Heart can be effective on assassins who jump to the backline. It’ll lower Attack Speed on enemy carries, which makes it a niche counter to a ranger composition.
Item Combo | Final Item | Effects |
---|---|---|
B.F. Sword | Guardian Angel | Revive champion with 800HP after 2 seconds |
Recurve Bow | Phantom Dancer | Wearer dodges all Critical Strikes |
Needlessly Large Rod | Locket of the Iron Solari | Shield units around you for 200 Health on combat start |
Tear of the Goddess | Frozen Heart | Adjacent enemies lose 25% Attack Speed |
Chain Vest | Thornmail | Reflect 100% of mitigated damage taken from attacks as magic damage |
Negatron Cloak | Sword Breaker | Attacks have a 25% chance to disarm |
Giant’s Belt | Red Buff | Attacks deal 20% Maximum Health burn damage over 10 seconds. Burned units cannot heal |
Sparring Gloves | Iceborne Gauntlet | When the wearer dodges, they create a zone of ice. Enemies inside the zone have their Attack Speed reduced by 35% |
Spatula | Knight’s Vow | Wearer is also a Knight |

Negatron Cloak - Item Cheat Sheet
From this list, we’d say that Red Buff, The Bloodthirster and Frozen Heart are all worthy pickups.
Ionic Spark isn’t exceptionally strong, but it can be useful against a Sorcerer composition which thrives off using spells to deal damage. For optimal damage output, it's best to pair it with Statikk Shiv for even more splash power.
Sword Breaker and Cursed Blade can be surprisingly strong if you're running a Gunslinger composition, or stick them on a champion who's capable of splashing multiple enemies quickly, and regularly. Docking a star level and preventing an enemy for attacking for four seconds can be game-changing!
Item Combo | Final Item | Effects |
---|---|---|
B.F. Sword | The Bloodthirster | Attacks heal for 50% of damage |
Recurve Bow | Cursed Blade | Attacks have a 20% chance to Shrink (Reduce enemy’s star level by 1) |
Needlessly Large Rod | Ionic Spark | Whenever an enemy casts a spell, they take 150 damage |
Giant’s Belt | Red Buff | Attacks deal 13% burn damage of Max HP over 5s and disable healing |
Sparring Gloves | Quicksilver | The wearer gains a shield that prevents the next crowd control effect from applying. This shield refreshes after 5 seconds |
Spatula | Knight’s Vow | Wearer is also a Knight |
Needlessly Large Rod - Item Cheat Sheet
The standout item from this list is Morellonomicon. Despite a slight nerf, it’s ability to prevent healing can be invaluable against compositions who rely heavily on one or two carries - especially if they’ve got items like The Bloodthirster equipped.
Yuumi’s also a great pickup if you’re in need of an extra Sorcerer and are chasing down the bonus.
Item Combo | Final Item | Effects |
---|---|---|
B.F. Sword | Hextech Gunblade | Heal 33% of damage dealt |
Recurve Bow | Guinsoo’s Rageblade | Attacks grant 5% attack speed. Stacks infinitely |
Needlessly Large Rod | Rabadon's Deathcap | Wearer's Ability Damage increased by+50% |
Tear of the Goddess | Luden's Echo | On spellhit, deal 200 splash damage |
Chain Vest | Locket of the Iron Solari | Shield units around you for 250 Health on combat start. Effect lasts for 4s |
Negatron Cloak | Ionic Spark | Whenever an enemy casts a spell, they take 150 damage |
Giant’s Belt | Morellonomicon | Spells deal burn damage equal to 20% of enemy's max HP over 5s and prevent all healing |
Sparring Gloves | Jeweled Gauntlet | The wearer’s spells can critically strike |
Spatula | Yuumi | Wearer is also a Sorcerer |
Tear of the Goddess - Item Cheat Sheet
The Spear of Shojin is ridiculously good on champions with powerful abilities. Equip this on Pyke, Sejuani or practically any champion whose ability you’d want to activate more frequently and it has the potential to carry your entire composition to victory.
Seraph’s Embrace can be great on spellcasters, especially when paired with the Spear of Shojin.
Hush is a nice pick against Sorcerer compositions, but it’s otherwise not powerful enough to warrant building otherwise.
Luden’s Echo is a great early game pickup for burst champions, but it’s damage does begin to fall off in the late game, though.
Item Combo | Final Item | Effects |
---|---|---|
B.F. Sword | Spear of Shojin | After casting an ability, recover 15% of remaining maximum Mana per attack |
Recurve Bow | Statikk Shiv | Every 3rd attack splashes 90 magic damage to 3 additional targets |
Needlessly Large Rod | Luden's Echo | On spellhit, deal 200 splash damage |
Tear of the Goddess | Seraph's Embrace | Regain 20 mana after each spell cast |
Chain Vest | Frozen Heart | Adjacent enemies lose 25% attack speed |
Negatron Cloak | Hush | Attacks have a 50% chance to silence for 3 seconds |
Giant’s Belt | Redemption | At 25% health, heal all nearby allies for 1000 HP |
Sparring Gloves | Hand of Justice | At the beginning of each planning phase, the wearer gains one of the following: Basic Attacks and spells deal +40% Damage or Basic Attacks heal 40 Health on-hit |
Spatula | Darkin | Wearer is also a Demon |
Giant's Belt - Item Cheat Sheet
We’re big fans of Warmog's Armor on frontline champions, thanks to its huge health and sustain boosts. It’s great on the likes of Warwick, Garen, or anyone who you’d like to last longer in fights.
Morellonomicon is fantastic on a team of Sorcerers as you’ll prevent the enemy team from healing. A perfect counter to enemy team compositions who rely on carries or sustain.
Item Combo | Final Item | Effects |
---|---|---|
B.F. Sword | Zeke's Herald | Allies around you on combat begin gain 15% Attack Speed |
Recurve Bow | Titanic Hydra | Attacks deal 10% of the wearer's maximum HP as bonus splash damage |
Needlessly Large Rod | Morellonomicon | Spells deal burn damage equal to 20% of enemy's max HP over 5s and prevent all healing |
Tear of the Goddess | Redemption | At 25% health, heal all nearby allies for 1000 HP |
Chain Vest | Red Buff | Attacks burn for 2.5% max Health. Burned units cannot heal |
Negatron Cloak | Zephyr | On combat start, banish an enemy for 5 seconds |
Giant’s Belt | Warmog's Armor | Regenerate 6% of missing HP per second |
Sparring Gloves | Trap Claw | At the beginning of combat, the wearer gains a shield that blocks the first enemy spell that hits them. The enemy that breaks the shield is stunned for 5 seconds |
Spatula | Frozen Mallet | Wearer is also a Glacial |
Spatula - Item Cheat Sheet
Many of the Spatula’s combinations create items which make champions another Origin or Class. This is fantastic for achieving a specific synergy early, or enabling an unlikely partnership between allies who’d normally never match up.
Runaan's Hurricane used to be pretty underwhelming, but given its new stats, we reckon it's been granted a new lease of life. Chuck this into a Ranger or Gunslinger combination and you'll have yourself a very strong damage dealer.
Don't forget that Runaan's Hurricane also applies on hit effects, which means it likely has brilliant synergy with Red Buff for increased percentage damage, or even disable items like Sword Breaker, Hush and Cursed Blade.
Item Combo | Final Item | Effects |
---|---|---|
B.F. Sword | Youmuu's Ghostblade | Wearer is also an Assassin |
Recurve Bow | Blade of the Ruined King | Wearer is also a Blademaster |
Needlessly Large Rod | Yuumi | Wearer is also a Sorcerer |
Tear of the Goddess | Darkin | Wearer is also a Demon |
Chain Vest | Knight's Vow | Wearer is also a Knight |
Negatron Cloak | Runaan's Hurricane | Attacks one additional enemy and deals 75% damage (applies on hit effects). Extra attacks deal 50% damage |
Giant’s Belt | Frozen Mallet | Wearer is also a Glacial |
Sparring Gloves | Mittens | Wearer is also a Yordle |
Spatula | Force of Nature | Gain +1 team size |
How do I get and combine items?
There are two ways to get items in Teamfight Tactics:
- Random drops from "Monster/Creep" waves. These rounds appear at specific intervals, and they become more challenging as each match progresses.
- Champions in the Carousel come pre-equipped with items. You can either choose to play them on the board, or you can refund them to add their item to your inventory.
Any items that drop will be placed in your inventory to the bottom left of your screen. You can drag and drop these golden cuboids onto your chosen champions to equip them.
To combine two items, you'll first need to equip the "Base item" onto your chosen champion. Next, you'll add the "Item combo" or "Ingredient" which will craft the final product. You can actually tell what each item combination will create thanks to a little pop up preview window.
If you're happy with the combination, simply drop the other item onto your champion and the two items will automatically forge into the final product.
Do be warned, though. Once you combine two items, there's no going back and you're stuck with the final product forever. Be sure before you combine!
Finally, you can equip up to three completed items on one champion. Normally, you'll receive enough drops to create between three and six completed items if you manage to make it to the late game.
Equipping Items: Tips and Tricks
Here are a few quick pointers to help you get the most from your item selection:
- Use the Carousel as an item-picking tool on top of a champion selection one. Even if you don't necessarily need a certain champion, but they've got a critical item, don't be afraid to refund them. The item will go into your inventory and you'll get a little cash bonus too.
- Some champions deal Attack Damage, while others deal Spell Damage. It's important you avoid equipping AD items on AP champions and vice versa. Sometimes it can pay off, but do be careful.
- Remember that you can equip up to three complete items on a champion. With this in mind, we'd recommend stacking one of your damage dealing champions with items as quickly as possible.
- The champion you begin each match with can be a valuable item resource, especially if you don't upgrade them at all, or choose not to build a team composition around them. If they're sitting on an item which can be used to bolster an existing, stronger party member, consider selling them for the greater good.
- Rapid Fire Cannon is an absolute must for damage dealing champions as it doubles attack range, increases AD and attack speed. While it suits the likes of Draven, Vayne and Ashe, it's also highly effective on melee champions too. We've tried it out on Nidalee and she's even able to attack enemies across the board in cougar form.
- For ranged damage dealers, we'd recommend B.F. Sword Item recipes.
- For Knights, we'd recommend Giant's Belt, Chainmail item or Negatron cloak recipes.
- For spellcasters, Needlessly Large Rod can build into some very powerful AP items.
