Year of the Mammoth guide
All of the massive changes headed to Hearthstone in 2017.
Blizzard has released a new Hearthstone blog post this evening, which reveals a number of significant changes coming to the game.
First of all is the news that the next year of play will be called the Year of the Mammoth - we're currently in the Year of the Kraken. Confirming what we already knew, all of the cards from Blackrock Mountain, The Grand Tournament and League of Explorers will be moved to the Wild format.
That's about the least significant news, however. There's a huge amount of information contained in that blog post, but here's the headline stuff:
Hearthstone's new Hall of Fame
A selection of extremely popular Classic cards are also being relegated to the Wild format via a nominal Hall of Fame classification.
- The Neutral cards in that list are Azure Drake, Sylvanas Windrunner and Ragnaros the Firelord.
- The Class cards being sent to the Hall of Fame are Power Overwhelming, Ice Lance and Conceal.
- Rather than making you feel "compelled" to dust those cards if you don't like playing in Wild, Blizzard's simply giving everyone the dust value of each one so you can hang onto them.
Adventure's are out, and three full expansions are in
Adventures are gone in 2017. Instead, there'll be three sets of 130+ cards released each year.
- You'll still unlock these cards via packs, but each expansion will add some single-player missions that help develop the theme of the new release.
What's happening to Wild?
The developers want Wild to have a stronger presence in Hearthstone. To support this, you'll see the following:
- There'll be a Heroic Tavern Brawl involving Wild cards only in the near future.
- The team will collaborate with third-party tournament organisers to promote Wild Hearthstone tournaments.
New rewards are coming - and a new Rogue hero
- Ahead of the launch of Year of the Mammoth, there'll be Daily Log-in Rewards for a limited time, offering dust, gold, expansion packs, and more as-yet unconfirmed rewards.
- You'll also be able to unlock a new cosmetic Rogue hero called Maiev Shadowsong for compleing 10 games of Hearthstone in Standard Ranked or Casual mode play.
