Rainbow Six Siege Capitão: Y4S1.3 update - what he can do and how to use him

Subdue your enemies

Capitão's crossbow is getting a major change in Rainbow Six: Siege's latest update. As such, the developers feel that this is going back towards his original intention of an "area denial operator".

He is somewhat simple to use once you have the gist of his abilities, and you can get some more general tips and tricks at our Rainbow Six Siege guide hub to help even further master your skill with this operator.

Capitão operator guide

Capitão's crossbow may seem a little daunting at first, but he can combine his abilities to make life very difficult for any defensive operator in his path. This guide will go over how to effectively use his crossbow, as well as the weapons and gadgets he's armed with and the recent update.

Capitão's Stats

Armour: 1
Speed: 3

Capitão's Weapon Loadouts

Capitão's got the PARA-308 assault rifle and the M249 light machine gun, with the only major differences in stats being that the light machine gun has lower recoil stability in exchange for a much higher ammunition capacity. His handgun is the PRB92, which again has okay damage and capacity and relatively good recoil management. The only thing about the light machine gun is that the reload speed is quite long.

Capitão's Gadgets

On the gadgets side, Capitão can equip the stun grenade and the claymore. Either can be a decent combination with his versatile ability, so it depends on if you want to be sneaky or if you want to just disorientate and cripple the enemy.

Capitão's Skill

The TAC Mk0 tactical crossbow has two shots of both asphyxiating bolts and microscopic smoke grenades. These can be combined with Capitão's gadget selection to devastating effect, particularly using stun grenades and the asphyxiating bolts to confuse them, or hiding claymores in smoke.

How it all works has been drastically altered in the Y4S1.3 update. The damage per tick has been reduced to 12 from 19, and the arrow now has trajectory, with the arrow falling from 10 meters onwards. That said, the area of effect has now increased and it takes two seconds from detonation for the arrow effect to spread. There's also some changes to how it handles raised surfaces, so you can take shelter underneath the asphyxiating bolts.

Should I pick Capitão?

Enemies may get savvy to the tricks that Capitão can pull off, but until then he can be rather fun to use. His guns do have a couple of drawbacks, but the practical capabilities of the crossbow are more than attractive in many cases. The fact he is now geared towards the "area denial" role means that you can fire off bolts to herd enemies into kill zones.

While Capitão does have a lot of utility, there are times where other operatives that have a more direct approach are more suitable for the map you're playing on. Therefore you can look at our main Rainbow Six: Siege operators guide which has links to each individual operator, as well as an overview on the more universally useful ones and which ones beginners should consider learning.
