Arma 3's latest Creator DLC takes you to Vietnam

The third-party DLC adds 300 km2 of jungle and piles of era-appropriate tech

Arma 3’s newest Creator DLC drops a load of Vietnam-themed ordnance into the game today. Entitled SOG Prairie Fire, this DLC pack has been developed by third-party studio Savage Game Design rather than original developer Bohemia Interactive, and probably should have just been called ‘Arma 3 Goes to Vietnam’.

Let’s talk turkey. The new map is a 300km square chunk covering bits of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. It brings four new factions, more than 50 weapons, and over 50 new vehicles to the game, all of which are era appropriate. There's also a voiced co-op campaign that follows the MACV-SOG Special Forces through the jungles and cities that surround the Ho Chi Minh Trail, supporting up to 14 players, as well as five single player scenarios to help newcomers get acquainted with the era.

The trailer’s atmosphere is certainly a sidestep from the feel of the Mediterranean in the base game, which is almost surgically clean in comparison. I’d forgotten Arma games could look and feel uncomfortable. It looks clammy and slippy, and I wouldn't want to be there without a tour bus idling nearby. It also delves into the sort of fight that never seems to happen in Arma 3: just a bunch of grunts firing wildly into the jungle at each other, bullets zinging off every surface before an airstrike decides the outcome of the battle. It could be very different from the main game.

The Arma 3 Creator DLC: S.O.G. Prairie Fire is out now on Steam for £16.99/€19.54/$19.54 until May 13th. That’s 15% off its usual price of £19.99/€22.99/$22.99.
