Assassin's Creed Odyssey Messara: how to complete the side quests

Being one of the most southern-most territories in the Mediterranean Sea, Messara is a deserty area with a lot of people that will need your help. There's a man who is holding the residents of a fishing village hostage, but that's the least of their problems. This guide will go over the main side quests for the territory of Messara and how to complete them.

It’s complicated

You’ll see a man being attacked by Athenian soldiers. He talks about a woman who he is worried about, so head to Little Egypt in Messara. Upon arriving, you'll see that the woman has already been visited by the Athenian guards, who are talking about what just happened. Kill them and examine the body inside. The man who set you the task will then meet you at the house.

Catch and Release

A woman on the docks in Octopus Bay will be screaming for anyone to help. Apparently her husband is missing and fears pirates may have gotten to him. She mentions a person called Swordfish Head to the west coast of Anaphi, so get on the Astresia and head over there and kill the pirates attacking him.

The Lost Arkalochori Axe

Outside the temple of Posiedon, you’ll find a priestess who needs a ceremonial axe. Again, Swordfish is mentioned, but the priestess is insistent that you find the axe that was stolen. Head to the bandits in a cave east of Heraklion near a big tree on the hill. Inside and on an altar near the chest, you’ll find the axe. Return it to her for the reward and information on Swordfish.

Revenge Served Cold

Another woman similar to the one that was yelling for her husband in the docks is now outside the Temple of Athena Poliouchos. She wants you to kill some Followers of Ares, who are hiding in caves throughout the Zeus’s Playground region. Return to her to get a reward for your troubles.

Gortyn Out of Hand

A civilian wants you to start a war. He wants you to kill a herald from Phaistos and the local leader. The herald is not far from your current location, while the leader is wherever the leader is currently in the map. Do so and return to the civilian for your reward.

Flowers for the Dead

An old man wants you to fulfil his dying wish. He wants you to pick some flowers from Zeus’s Playground in Mount Ida. You will be too late, but see his daughter with him. Give her the flowers to complete the quest.

Fang for your Buck

You’ll need three fangs, one from a shark, one from a lynx, and one from a lion. Sharks can be killed regularly and there are plenty of lynxes to the north of the map, but there is a wrecked wagon on the road west of the town towards the nearby village. Follow the blood trail to find a lioness. Return to get your reward for completing his request.

Full Circle

Meet Ardos’s caretaker on the outskirts of Phaistos Village. This is west of Minos’s Legacy and beyond the canyon. When you arrive, you’ll find a stranger there instead. Interrogate him to find out that the man is in the village being held prisoner. Rescue him and ask about the labyrinth.

Recollections

Talk to the nearby collector about the labyrinth. He’ll be reluctant to talk about it but he’ll say you need the Thesus’s armour. Head to the fort which houses the armour and go into the cave to the side of it. It should be on a pedestal up the ladder.

Bare it All

In the middle of Zeus’s Playground, you’ll find a man called Pandaros will need your help as he’s tied up and being attacked by vultures. Free him after killing the wolves and he’ll tell you about an amulet. You are able to recruit him at this stage. The cave is nearby, so head inside and kill all the Followers of Ares for the amulet.

Civil Unrest

In Little Egypt, a man tells that the guards and merchants are at each other’s throats. He offers gems as a reward. Head to the areas he says and quell the unrest. If you ask the rioting crowd bullying a guard’s family to stop, they’ll think you were paid off and put a bounty on your head. You’ll also get a choice with smashing a merchant’s pots or killing guards. Once you’ve quelled all three incidents, return to the man who we find lying dead with a note. The note is from Diokles who wants to settle this in a courtyard. Head there and kill him and his men for the gems.

Say that Again!

A blacksmith and his employee are having a bit of a dispute about a shipment. He needs obsidian to complete his work. If you have plenty on you, give them to him, otherwise you can hunt for obsidian nearby to get the reward.

Myths and Minotaurs

Outside Knossos you’ll find a chest. You’ll be ambushed by a young boy who will confide in you about his father. He’ll want you to save his father from the Minotaur. Follow him to the entrance, but the door is locked. He’ll mention the Swordfish among a few others.

Blood in the Water

Investigate the Swordfish’s location in Octopus Bay and you’ll eventually be jumped by a thug. Escape and take a boat to a nearby island off the coast. His hideout is underwater, so dive in, taking out the sharks that guard the entrance. He’s also quite mad and it turns out the cultists forced him to go after the Minotaur. Unfortunately for him, he’s too far gone, so kill him to finish the quest.

That's all the side quests for this region so far. Head on back to our Assassin's Creed Odyssey side quests guide for more information about another quest-line or another region's set of side quests.
