Overwatch Hero: Sombra's Skills Revealed In Animation

In a Sombra mood

The newest hero of Overwatch [official site], a Mexican hacker called Sombra, has finally been revealed at Blizzcon 2016 after a long-winded ARG and lots of speculation. Her skills are frighteningly disruptive, including the ability to go invisible, temporarily stop enemies from using their own abilities and destroy enemies barriers and shields. Come and look at all the skills in detail, as well as a new animated short to celebrate her entrance into Overwatch’s camp world of lovely misfits.

Here’s the animated short, in which the hacker helps Widowmaker and Reaper infiltrate a familiar facility.

Now let’s take a look at her skills, which are listed here on Overwatch’s hero summary page.

Machine pistol

Sombra’s fully-automatic machine pistol fires in a short-range spread.

Hack

Sombra hacks enemies to temporarily stop them from using their abilities, or hacks first aid kits to make them useless to her opponents.

Thermoptic Camo

Sombra becomes invisible for a short period of time, during which her speed is boosted considerably. Attacking, using offensive abilities, or taking damage disables her camouflage.

Translocator

Sombra tosses out a translocator beacon. She can instantly return to the beacon’s location while it is active (including when it’s in mid-flight).

EMP (ultimate)

Sombra discharges electromagnetic energy in a wide radius, destroying enemy barriers and shields and hacking all opponents caught in the blast.

Yikes. The ability to temporarily cut off enemy abilities alone makes her very scary to me, everything else is geared to make her a highly offensive irritant, mixing up roles traditionally filled by others. Her camo suggests the stealthy infiltration of Reaper, while the personal transporter device brings to mind the guerilla attitude of Tracer. Her ultimate seems to be far more specific than many others – going for shields and barriers – but considering it also hacks everyone’s abilities at the same time, it still looks likely to cause a lot of upset.

What do we all think? She's not actually in the game quite yet - still no word on that. But I think she's going to be a huge troll of a character.
