Total War: Attila - Slavic Nations Culture Pack Out Now

Slavic celebrations

Since its release this time last year, Total War: Attila [offical site] has received no less than eight separate paid expansions. The Slavic Nations Culture Pack is the latest add-on to that list, which welcomes three new factions onto its battlefields. Also, a coinciding patch means owners of the base game will get the new Garamantians faction for free.

The Slavic Nations pack calls upon the services of the Anteans, the Sclavenians, and the Venedians, all of whom can be used in both single and multiplayer battles. Each group have their own perks and play style, and bring with them new religions and unique victory conditions.

In his rundown of the best and worst Total War games, Rob noted that Attila "might be the most inventive and exciting design Total War has ever had, particularly at the strategic level." To this end, an interesting feature of this add-on is that expansion isn't entirely necessary to achieve victory while playing as a Slavic faction. You see, for the first time in Attila, victory for these guys is hinged upon Wonders, which means you're required to build and maintain predetermined monumental symbols in order to win. Wonders give powerful bonuses too.

Another feature that sets them apart from the herd is that the Slavic Nations don't suffer snow attrition, meaning they can set up shop in even the most desolate of landscapes with no financial penalty. In short, they're hard as nails. Here are developers The Creative Assembly explaining the newbies in greater detail:

As for the Garamantians, Creative Assembly offer this here description:

"In the dying light of the 4th century, the Garamantians occupy a unique position. From their north African strongholds, they can attack the now-troubled Roman Empire, forging their own path in the west, or strike out into the seas to explore the unknown. The world is changing, yet the Garamantians are poised to seize greatness no matter what."

Full patch notes for the free Garmantians update can be found in this direction, while the Slavic Nations Culture Pack costs £5.99 on Steam.
