The best loadout to unlock the Ballistic Knife.
Season 3 of Cold War and Warzone Caldera has brought with it a whole load of new stuff to play with. One of these is the Ballistic Knife, a spring-action knife launcher you can use to shank your enemies in the face from a distance whilst also stopping them from getting too close. Here’s how to unlock the Ballistic Knife in Warzone and Cold War and the best loadout to do so with.

How to unlock the Ballistic Knife in Cold War and Warzone
To unlock the Ballistic Knife you'll need to Get a One Shot, One Kill medal and a Melee kill in the same life in 15 different matches.
You’ll need to keep an eye out for the medal appearing at the top of your screen! You need to get the full kill with a single shot, so if your enemy has already been whittled by your teammate, it won’t count, even if it would’ve been a one-shot kill anyway. Another thing to have in mind is that you shouldn’t leave the match when you’ve completed a notch on your challenge. It’s a pain, but it’s got to be done.
Head into Nuketown 24/7 (or Yamantau 24/7 if you want some Hunt for Adler progress), and get going.
It’s way harder to complete this challenge in Warzone, but it’s not impossible! In standard Battle Royale you’ll have an extremely rough time, but repeatedly dropping into Storage Town can help. I recommend you get the melee kill first as they’re way harder to come by than big snipes.
Best loadout to unlock the Ballistic Knife
To unlock the Ballistic Knife in Cold War, I used the following loadout:
- Primary Weapon: LW3 - Tundra (Royal & Kross 4x optic, Wrapped Suppressor, 26.5” Hammer Forged barrel, 7 Rnd mag, Speed Tape)
- Secondary Weapon: Wakizashi
- Equipment: Stimshot, Tomahawk, Field Mic
- Perk 1: Flak Jacket, Tactical Mask
- Perk 2: Assassin, Tracker
- Perk 3: Ghost, Ninja
Of course, use whichever sniper rifle or melee weapon you fancy. You might even want to use the R1 Shadowhunter instead of a melee weapon, since it offers a fantastic move speed and you can get your melee kill by slamming your enemy in the face with the crossbow. Just stay patient and the kills will come.
How to equip the Ballistic Knife
In Cold War Multiplayer, the Ballistic Knife is a Secondary weapon in the ‘Special’ category, on the far right hand menu, underneath the M79 and R1 Shadowhunter.
In Warzone I haven’t been able to see the Ballistic Knife yet, but it should become available soon.
How to unlock the Ballistic Knife in Zombies
There’s a very different way to unlock the Ballistic Knife in Zombies mode: Kill 300 enemies while you are using a Special or Melee weapon that is Epic or Legendary quality
Basically, upgrade your melee or special weapon at the Armory until it’s purple or orange, and just absolutely wreck the zombies. I personally love the R1 Shadowhunter, as when it’s upgraded and Pack-A-Punched, it absolutely wrecks zombies with ease.
