Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds declares FIX PUBG a success, talk new development directions

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds’ recent bug squelching period is over, according to its dev team. Executive Plunk producer Taeseok Jang took to Steam to thank players for their “continued support,” give details on improvements to performance and optimisation, and to explain what’s still to come regarding matchmaking, anti-cheat solutions, and the game's 2019 roadmap.

Aw for… Plunkbat’s 50v50 event mode delayed by ‘critical error’

The lads are going to kill me. I promised them the stag party of a lifetime, a fifty-lad pub crawl from Zharki through Georgopol then a boat ride to Primorsk and a dune buggy race to Mylta, closing by breaking into Mylta Power in search of radioactive goop to chug. I've had special tour t-shirts printed. They've all booked this weekend off work. And now,…

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds first 50v50 event start tonight

When two stag or hen parties chance upon each other down Espionage and merge, the ground trembles at the might of their combined banter and windows the length of Victoria Street rattle to their roars. I cannot begin to imagine the consequences if twelve parties should join forces. We'll find out this weekend in Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, as the stag & hen battle royale will tonight…

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds fixing faulty region sorting

Adding automatic region sorting to Playerunknown's Battlegrounds was supposed to solve the problem of jerks disrupting games by connecting to distant servers where they'd lag around with high pings. In reality, last week's update caused more problems. Players could find themselves sorted--and locked--onto servers that clearly weren't in their local region, and in laggy games with folks thrown in from all around the world. Not…

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds has banned over 13 million cheaters

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds has long struggled with cheaters, popping up from nowhere to headshot you from across the map and possibly through some walls. For 16 months, the developers have been posting weekly accounts listing how many players they've permanently banned for cheating – a number that now adds up to over 13 million. That's about as many people as live in the whole nation of…

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds brings back map selection, kinda

On paper, the big update which hit Playerunknown's Battlegrounds in the wee hours sounds pretty good. It adds a new anti-cheat system, brings back map selection, whacks in a ranking system to climb, and enables automatic region sorting to hopefully keep distant players from lagging up our rounds. In reality, ah, it seems little it might be a little messy.

Feature: Now updated with even more ray-tracing and DLSS-confirmed games

Here’s a list of every game that’s going to look amazing on the Nvidia RTX 2080 and 2080Ti

Last week, the first of three shiny new Nvidia Turing cards finally pitched up on shop shelves - the RTX 2080. You can head over to my Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 review to find out more on what I thought of the card as a general pixel pusher, but the long and short of it is that you're probably not looking at much of a…

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds adding flare guns and ranking system

It's Plunk a go-go today with many titbits of Playerunknown's Battlegrounds news. To summarise: 1) A new event gives the opportunity to earn a fantastic giant hat, the sort of enticing hat that tourists on a stag or hen weekend would instantly buy. 2) The flare gun seen in the Metal Rain event, which can call in a special huge airdrop or an armoured vehicle,…

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds new event mode is all about that VSS

As a fan of any video game gun best described as "endearingly crap with a real knack to it", I am delighted that the latest temporary event mode in Playerunknown's Battlegrounds focuses on its worst sniper: the VSS. Y'know, that one with a wooden stock and built-in silencer, the one which plings lazy 9mm bullets like a child throwing pebbles, the one which is so…

Training day in Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds plus tuk-tuks, lasers and a new rifle

A bundle of new stuff has arrived on Playerunknown's Battlegrounds's test servers today. Heading up Update 21 (find the full notes here) is Training Mode, a small practice map for up to 20 players where nobody dies (even if you kill them), and there's plenty of toys to test this newfound immortality on friends and strangers alike. There's a new assault rifle - the 7.62mm MK47…

Parp parp! Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds adds a scooter and new gun

A new weapon and a cute scooter have arrived in Playerunknown's Battlegrounds overnight, bringing new ways to murder and new ways to live your best stag & hen weekend. Two folks can sit on the scooter as it whines along, so you might want to have a chugging contest to decide who rides with the bride. The new assault rifle seems a right good'un too,…

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds adding training map in September

At last, the final piece of Playerunknown's Battlegrounds lore will fall into place when a 'Training Mode' map is added next month. Along with the oft-requested shooting range to test out weapons and figure out how the heck this whole 'ballistics' thing works, across four square kilometres it'll include shooting target courses, a spot to practice parachute drops, places to clamber around, tracks to race…

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds new event mode makes it worse on purpose

The latest temporary event mode Playerunknown's Battlegrounds calls back to its days in early access, when the game was worse, and I can't help but suspect the devs are doing this on purpose to show how far it has come. Live until the end of the weekend, the 'Early Access Memories' mode pulls terrible tricks like putting the Tommy Gun back in care packages and…

PUBG puts down its guns, picks up many grenades for War Mode: Dodgebomb

One of my main takeaways from watching the PUBG Global Invitational, apart from disappointment, was "huh, I really should use grenades more". My psyche has clearly resonated with that of whoever comes up with the War Mode ideas for Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, because this weekend's deathmatch event hands every player 20 frag grenades while removing all their other toys. Apart from a frying pan, obvs.

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds launches FIX PUBG campaign

"It's time to FIX PUBG," declare the makers of Playerunknown's Battlegrounds as they launch a new campaign detailing the many technical improvements and fixes they're working on. Framerate stuttering, rubberbanding players, desynced murders, and those dastardly cheaters are among the problems the devs list, detail, and plot the demise of on the new Fix Plunkbat campaign minisite. They've been putting out fixes and tweaks for…

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds casting dynamic weather across older maps

After seven months of digital drought, the rains will finally return to Erangel in the next Playerunknown's Battlegrounds patch. Now live on the test server and due on the main client soon, update #19 adds variants of Erangel and Miramar with the dynamic 'overcast' weather which drifts between cloud, fog, and rain. I'm so happy to see that return--and spread--after they were pulled for December's…

The best moments (and winners) of the PUBG Global Invitational

I spent the past five days watching the Playerunknown's Battlegrounds Global Invitational, looking on as people shoot at each other in showdowns that aren't officially stag and hen dos gone wrong. But don't listen to Brendan "Plunk" Greene. PUBG isn't about winning, it's about watching people get away with stuff that they shouldn't and laughing when things go horribly wrong.

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds new event mode is totes pr0

After the big teams, big bants, and beefy vehicles of last weekend's Metal Rain, things will take a turn for the serious with the next Playerunknown's Battlegrounds event mode. Inspired by the PUBG Global Invitational tournament raging over in Berlin, this week's event will play by the official digital sports rules, where the tingly blue circle moves faster, the red bombing zone is disabled, good…

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds kicks off Invitational with free outfit

After a slapstick competitive debut with 2017's PUBG Invitational, where some matches stalled with players hiding in the sea or the 'dangerous' blue zone, Playerunknown's Battlegrounds today starts its first "major" official tournament. The PUBG Global Invitational [pubwha? -bants ed.] will bring five days of competition from twenty teams, all scrapping to be the last lads standing and claim their share of a $2 million…
